***Oscilloscope Diagnostics and Full Bill of Health:  All amplifiers are Checked under a specified or maximum load with an oscilloscope before they receive a functional bill of health.  Testing is currently achieved using several input wave forms and a calibrated HP 2245 Scope, running the 'warmed' amp to max power with sine wave for a few minutes while watching the current draw, bias, plate and screen voltages.  Finally, it is played with a real instrument and/or musical input source.

Large Selection of Quality Replacement parts IN STOCK and growing each week!

85% of capacitor replacements and Tube Biasing Services are finished and returned to the customer in
7 days or less.

12ax7/12at7/12au7/7025/5881/6L6/E34L/EL34/EL84,  5U4GB/GZ34 tubes are here ready for your amp.  Many Fender and Marshall parts in stock and on the way.

Symptoms your amp may have, and what I'll do first:
  • 60 Cycle Hum - look for a pinched filament wire or pilot bulb wire, loose ground wire.  Any source before the rectifier.
  • 120 Cycle Hum - Test the filter caps for leakage/end of service life.
  • Scratching, Popping, Intermittent Signal, occurs when turning knobs or moving sliders and switches - Reconditioning of mechanical parts.  In some cases, this path leads to a fork in the road.  I have taken good time to open up the potentiometer and clean the brush and carbon track by hand, in order to maintain the value of a special vintage piece.  It usually takes 25 min to do this.  It is preferred for most customers to replace the pot, as a great deal of time is saved and the amp or device's function will be the same.
  • Amp Echoes after note is played - Test preamp tubes for microphonics
  • Amp "plays" other vibrations in the room - Test preamp tubes for microphonics
  • Greater than normal Hiss coming from speakers - check power tube bias, then filter and coupling caps
  • Hot Tubes - Test bias and coupling caps for leakage to grid.
  • High Frequency Noise - Test tubes, check for modifications, observe feedback circuit.  Scope for HF oscillations
  • Low Power, Loss of Power - Check Power Supply Voltages, starting at rectifier.  Signal trace through each gain stage.
